AM kindergarten tested their mittens in the snow. We had to fill out our criteria before trying our mitten in the snow and afterwards. After we experimented in the snow we had to talk about what we would change for next time. Ask your child what changes they would make.
Mrs. Mask's classes had gym and Mrs. Conley and Mrs. Watterson's classes had music.
What activities did they do today?
PM kindergarten read, "How to Catch a Snowman" and brainstormed ideas to catch a snowman. We drew in our journals and wrote along with our picture. All of us are doing a wonderful job putting down the letter sounds we hear when writing.
We played fix my pattern and had to find and fix the pattern using snap cubes. We had a partner check to see if our pattern made sense.
Today we talked about home reading and each child was sent home with a book. We are pretty excited about learning to read!! The children will choose a new book each day. Please see the notice and hand out in the colored folders. If your child did not receive their home reading it was because we are missing their folders. Please send them back ASAP. The home reading books MUST travel to and from school in their folders. Please take care of these books as we only have a limited number for all of Kindergarten to share.
Although we realize many of the children are not yet reading (and there is no expectation to read in Kindergarten) we are promoting a love of books and excitement to read. We expect children to memorize the pattern (tell them the pattern first) and use picture cues to make their best guess about the words. Teach your child to use their finger to track the words. This helps the children learn the difference between a letter and a word. If your child seems frustrated, just focus on the pictures to tell a story. Above all we want this experience to be fun and enjoyable for you and your child. Thank you for all your support in advance!!
Each time you read with your child please have them write the title and date of the story. Please use the book log only for home reading books and even if you read the book multiple times, just include it one time per evening. When students fill their log page they will receive a small prize from the reading treasure chest.
We are looking for any items you may wish to donate to our prize bin such as pencil , stickers, leftover loot bag bag birthday party items, McDonalds happy meal toys, etc. (these items do not need to be new. ) Thank you!
