We started our day with big centers and switching our home reading. Thanks to all our eager readers and parent support! If your child is not bringing a book daily, please ensure it is packed in their folder and placed in their backpack every night. We had literacy centers. One group continued to work on their alphabet letter hunt and the other group read Superhero ABC's and practiced the sounds the letters make . We had to line up in order of the alphabet and sing the sounds each letter makes. We finished the final page in our Winter, Winter, What Do You See book. We are very excited to share these books with you at our celebration of learning. We had gym and practiced our passing skills with volleyballs. We looked at Animal Homes in Winter and sorted which animals go underground, in water or in the forest. Reminder, there is no school on Friday as it is a PD Day. You can now access report cards online in Power School. If it is not working on the app (it should) but pl

Today was a busy day at school. The AM learners did a guided drawing of a bear as we continue to investigate where animals live in the winter.  The PM learners did a guided drawing of a bullfrog.  We learned that bullfrogs and bears hibernate in the winter. We went to the gym and played with the hoops and balls too and then a game of builders and bulldozers! We spent some time exploring puzzles and working cooperatively to complete the puzzle. Please check your child's colored folder for a blue permission form for the "Who Do You Tell?" presentations that kindergarten will participate in next week. Please complete the form and return it to school ASAP with your child. Dance tickets will be on sale tomorrow for Kindergarten. Reminder, there is no school on Friday as it is a PD Day. Warm Feet and Heads This week, the Eric Harvie Peace Ambassadors are collecting warm, new or gently used, adult sized socks and hats for Calgary’s homeless.  After our recent cold

Today was an exciting day in Kindergarten.  We worked on page 4 of our "Winter, Winter What Do You See?" book and are getting excited to share our books with you at our upcoming celebration of learning. We read the story "Over and Under the Snow".  We cut out animals and glued them in our journals in their right homes, either over or under the snow.  Please ask your child what animals live over and under the snow. The AM learners watched a slow motion video of how snowflakes were formed.  We then used hot water, borax laundry soap, pipe cleaners & blue food coloring to make our own snowflakes.  The snowflakes will take some time to grow and we are excited to check on them tomorrow morning. We had music and gym today.  In the gym we continued to explore volleyball skills using beach balls and in music we practiced the chubby little snowman poem and the 8 feet of snow song.  The highlight of music was playing freeze dance! AM and PM Kindergarten are lookin

Today was a great day in Kindergarten.  We continued to work on our Winter, Winter, What Do You See? book.  We have completed the words and art work on 3 pages and the last page will be completed tomorrow. We also started thinking about and learning about Winter Animals. We asked the students what do animals do in the winter? We came up with some questions we are looking to answer and learn more about.  We read the book "Winter Animals".  Ask your child what they learned from the story.   We had music and gym today.  In the gym, we played with beach balls as we begin to learn about volleyball.  There is no school Friday January 31 as it is a PD Day for teachers. Warm Feet and Heads This week, the Eric Harvie Peace Ambassadors are collecting warm, new or gently used, adult sized socks and hats for Calgary’s homeless.  After our recent cold spell, supplies are low at our city’s shelters and we want to help to fill them back up before the next cold snap hits

Today we started our morning with some arrival centers. During this time, we switched our home reading and many of us visited the learning commons. Our kindergarten students love reading and we are so excited to have so many beginner readers in our class. We started an art project that we will share with you later. It involved a lot of cutting. We noticed many of the students struggling to cut simple shapes. Please practice cutting at home. Have your child make a grocery list and cut up some of the flyers. Take out play dough and have your child cut the play dough into pieces. Cutting ribbon or string or straws can also be fun Attached are a few links to cutting pages if you would prefer to use the sheets. Remember to have thumb up, cutting away from our body, use your helper hand and chicken wings in. https://www.dltk-kids.com/crafts/miscellaneous/scissor_skills.htm https://www.activityvillage.co.uk/winter-scissor-activities https://www.allkidsnetwork.com/fine-motor-skills/s

Today was a busy morning in Kindergarten. Mr. Kelly came to visit us and we read the story "Harold and the Purple Crayon". We practiced using a purple crayon to draw vertical, horizontal and diagonal lines.  We then put the lines together to make a snowflake. Ask your child to draw a snowflake for you.  Later we used white crayon to draw snowflakes on watercolor.  When we used the watercolor paint it was magical when the snowflake appeared in the paint. In the afternoon we practiced drawing our lines on large pieces of paper with purple crayons as well. We will make our magical snowfalkes tomorrow morning with the PM kindies. We worked on the second page of our "Winter, Winter, What Do You See?" book.  Ask your child what they see in the winter. We went to the gym today and practiced our basketball skills. We practiced dribbling on the line, throwing the ball against the wall and catching it and shooting baskets. In the afternoon half of us went to the gym to pla

Today in the morning, we had literacy centers at school. One group went to the learning commons where we went on a letter hunt. We were given a sheet with the upper case letters on it and we were letter detectives looking around the learning commons for the matching lower case letters. We learned there are a lot of letters in the alphabet and we will be back tomorrow to find the rest of the letters. The other group stayed in the classroom and worked on counting the number of letters in our names.  We made a chart to see how many letters are in each name. We wondered what the longest name was in Kindergarten? Today we started making a book! We are all authors in Kindergarten. Every one of us is a writer and we going to showcase our talents by writing a book called "Winter, Winter, What do you see?".  Today we worked on the first page of the book. Ask your child what they saw in winter on page 1.  We are illustrators too! We are learning how Eric Carle creates the art work

Today we were artists and made our own coloured paper with different painting techniques and colors. We used feathers, sponges, corks, plastic forks and knives, bubble wrap, lego, tin foil - ask me what my favourite item was to paint with. We drew a picture in our visual journal about our visit to the Tuscany Vet Clinic yesterday and worked on our 5 Star Drawings: 1. colours make sense 2. colour in the lines 3. use many colours 4 take your time 5. add many details Ask me what how I finished the sentence "I see a..." when I went to the vet clinic. The blue group had gym in the morning while the red group went to music. Ask me what games I played with Mr.Der and Mrs.Coulson. In the afternoon, the yellow group went to gym and played "Junk in my yard" and the green group had music with Mrs.Coulson. Thank you for all the glass jar donations - please do NOT send in anymore. We have more than enough! A reminder to send home reading folder back daily. The chi

We had so much fun visiting the Vet Clinic. We learned about how the vet takes care of pets. The Tuscany Vet clinic only takes care of dogs and cats. We saw a stuffy who was getting ready to have an operation, we learned all about the tools the vet uses to take care of the dogs and cats. We saw a stuffy that was getting ready to have it's teeth cleaned. It was interesting to learn about the tools needed to clean animal teeth. Some of the tools look the same as tools we've seen in the dentist office before. We liked looking at the x-ray of the dogs back, legs and tail. The dog had some stones in it's belly that needed to be taken out. Please ask your child to share about their adventure to the vet! Thank you to our volunteers who joined us today! We appreciate the help! A reminder to send home reading folder back daily. The children are doing a great job with their home reading and learning to switch their books. Thank you for the support ! The folder also had a notice
