Tuesday January 28

Today was an exciting day in Kindergarten.  We worked on page 4 of our "Winter, Winter What Do You See?" book and are getting excited to share our books with you at our upcoming celebration of learning.

We read the story "Over and Under the Snow".  We cut out animals and glued them in our journals in their right homes, either over or under the snow.  Please ask your child what animals live over and under the snow.

The AM learners watched a slow motion video of how snowflakes were formed.  We then used hot water, borax laundry soap, pipe cleaners & blue food coloring to make our own snowflakes.  The snowflakes will take some time to grow and we are excited to check on them tomorrow morning.

We had music and gym today.  In the gym we continued to explore volleyball skills using beach balls and in music we practiced the chubby little snowman poem and the 8 feet of snow song.  The highlight of music was playing freeze dance!

AM and PM Kindergarten are looking for additional volunteers to help us with our in school experience "Scientists in the Classroom" on Tuesday Feb 4 and Wednesday Feb 5 from 8:20-11:15am.  If you have a current police clearance and are free to help us either day, please email your child's responsibility teacher (or volunteer coordinator).  To those parents who have signed up to help, we appreciate your help!

There is no school Friday, January 31 as it is a PD Day for teachers.

Warm Feet and Heads

This week, the Eric Harvie Peace Ambassadors are collecting warm, new or gently used, adult sized socks and hats for Calgary’s homeless.  After our recent cold spell, supplies are low at our city’s shelters and we want to help to fill them back up before the next cold snap hits.  There are collection bins and a display in the hub where students can drop off donations during ignite time each day.

Please ensure:

*socks are adult sizes
*gently used socks and hats are washed and do not have any holes
*socks are rolled into pairs
*they are high enough to cover cold ankles

Peace Ambassadors will be at our upcoming Sock Hop on Thursday evening to take donations as well!  If you would prefer to donate to our coin collection, Mrs. Zwack will happily purchase socks and hats.

Thank you for supporting our Warm Feet and Heads project
