Tuesday January 7
We hope everyone had a wonderful break. It was great to see so many smiling faces enter the door today!
We re-read the story, "The Mitten" and talked about why the animals used the mitten in the story. We told the children they are going to be making their own mittens and to think about what kind of materials would work best to make a mitten. The children then went to tables and tested various materials in the snow.
We asked students when they came back what they noticed about the materials and then asked them to think about what makes a good mitten? The children talked in groups and came up with criteria for a good mitten.
We introduced the word Subitizing. Ask your child what that means? Here is a short video that we watched today to practice subitizing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whH7JjWCJjQ
Mrs Mask's class had gym and Mrs. Conley and Mrs. Watterson's class had music. What did they do?
We also worked on making patterns. Practice creating and extending patterns with your child.
The students will be designing their own mitten using a variety of materials. The students came up with criteria for their mitten (waterproof, snow stays out, warm on the inside, fits properly) and we are looking for materials such as packing materials, bubble wrap, fabric, cotton batting etc. to assist them in their creations. PM will be designing a mitten on Friday and AM will be designing on Monday. If you have any items you would be willing to donate we appreciate it.
This Friday is PM kindergarten / No school for AM Kindergarten.
