Wednesday March 4

Today we read, "The Busy Tree". We talked about what animals we saw and what they were doing in the story.

We learned about what is a living vs non living thing. We watched a video and then spoke about what is living and non living in preparation for our field trip to Fish Creek Provincial Park. Ask your child what is the difference between these two concepts.

In groups the children had to decide which items were living and non living and place them on a chart. Students explored whether sunlight, rocks, rabbits, trees and leaves were living or non-living. They also learned about the different rules that need to be followed for something to be considered "living." Ask your child about these rules.

We worked on a math problem today. It was, "There are 10 snakes on a hill at Fish Creek Park. 5 snakes slithered away. How many snakes are still on the hill? Draw a picture to represent this." With this, we also explored the different ways in which students reached their answer (whether it was counting, mental math, subtracting or using a number line).
