Monday April 27

New for the week of April 27 - we will be offering a "storytime" with the teachers. The Google Meet code to join a storytime with one of the teachers is storytimePlease note that there is no sign up genius for this, just join in whenever you can at any of the times listed below.

Storytimes are as follows:

Monday, April 27 10:00am with Mrs. Conley
Tuesday, April 28 2:00pm with Mrs. Watterson
Wednesday, April 29 10:00am with Mrs. Mask
Thursday, April 30 2:00pm with Mrs. Mask

If you plan to attend the storytime Google Meet, we ask that you please turn your microphone OFF as soon as you join the meet. We expect that there will be many Kindergarten friends who want to join and it can become very loud and distracting with so many friends all in the same Meet. Teachers will open the Google Meet 5 minutes prior to the story starting.

Literacy
View and listen to the following story here:

Materials - white visual journal, pencil, crayons/pencil crayons/markers

Task:
1. Draw a line down the middle of your page to divide it into 2 columns
2. Label one column with "Winter" and the other column "Spring"
3. Draw or write 5 examples of things you are saying goodbye to from winter and 5 things that you are saying hello to in the spring.
4. Don't forget to label your drawings with initial sounds of words or attempt the spell out as many sounds that you hear in the word. Example: "SPRN" for "spring"
Extension: think of examples of clothing, changes outside, changes in nature, changes in animals

Extension (optional):

Poem of the Week - Practice it as much as you can for the rest of the week and then have an adult record it when you're ready to recite it. Hint - copy the words "wake up" and then draw the pictures of objects they mention in the poem (ie. flowers, weeds, frogs, seeds, etc.). Looking at pictures is a great strategy for beginning readers!

MathMystery Counting
Materials: a brown bag or similar bag that is non-transparent, 10-20 small objects to put inside bag

I can...
  • Count to 10
  • Understand that the last number in a count represents the total number of objects
  • Show numbers 2 to 10 with different objects and pictures
Put some objects into a brown lunch bag or a non-transparent fabric bag. Let your child reach into the bag and try to count the objects without looking. Take the objects out and count. You can turn it into a game by taking turns making a mystery bag and counting.

For an extension, consider putting more objects into the bag (up to 20).

Challenge (optional)

Create a recycled material flower collage (or loose parts collage)
Go through your recycling bin and find items to create your spring flower collage.

  • newspaper/scrap construction paper
  • cardboard/cereal boxes
  • straws
  • lids/bottle caps
  • scissor
  • glue
