Thursday April 30

New for the week of April 27 - we will be offering a "storytime" with the teachers. The Google Meet code to join a storytime with one of the teachers is storytimePlease note that there is no sign up genius for this, just join in whenever you can at the times listed below.

Storytimes are as follows:

Thursday, April 30 2:00pm with Mrs. Mask

If you plan to attend the storytime Google Meet, we ask that you please turn your microphone OFF as soon as you join the meet. We expect that there will be many Kindergarten friends who want to join and it can become very loud and distracting with so many friends all in the same Meet. Teachers will open the Google Meet 5 minutes prior to the story starting.

Literacy - Spring Magic
Materials - white visual journal, scrap piece of colored paper, pencil, pencil crayons, glue stick

Listen to the story here:
Abracadabra, It's Spring

Literacy Task:
Spring Magic

Review of Instructions:
1. Label the top of the page "Spring Magic."
2. Take half a sheet of colored paper (or regular white paper).
3. Mark 1'' from R side edge. This is where you will create the first fold (fold paper inwards to create a "tab").
4. Fold the L side to fit inside the R side fold (almost in half). *You have now created a folded flap book with a larger area from the L and a small tap to close over top on the R.
5. Glue the back of the middle piece only and adhere to your journal page.
6. Draw and/or print something that will change in spring - think of some fun magic words to add.
7. Open up the flap and draw what happens after "Spring Magic" occurs (ie. grass turns green, raindrops come out of clouds, bunnies turn back to brown, flowers bloom, etc).

Poem of the Week - Practice it as much as you can for the rest of the week and then have an adult record it when you're ready to recite it. Hint - copy the words "wake up" and then draw the pictures of objects they mention in the poem (ie. flowers, weeds, frogs, seeds, etc.). Looking at pictures is a great strategy for beginning readers!

Math - How many items will fit into the shoebox?
Materials - shoebox or any kind of box, items to put in the box

Find a shoebox at home. Is the shoebox large or small? Estimate: How many large items will fit into the shoebox? Fill and count.

For an extension find 2 shoeboxes.  Guess which one will hold more items.  Fill both boxes and see if your prediction was right.  Which box held more?  Which held less?

Bonus read aloud by surprise guest 😊

Challenge (optional) Create a Bird

Choose your favorite bird or go outside and find once you can create! Use paper, recycled materials or any loose parts you can find in your home or backyard.
