Learning Intention of the Week (Early Literacy)
  • I can identify the main characters, events and setting in a story.
  • I can organize information and compare stories by describing similarities and differences among them.
Learning Intention of the Week (Mathematics)
  • I can show, describe and compare quantities of things up to 10 (identify numbers).
  • I can count and sequence numbers in order to 10 (forwards and backwards).

This will be our last blog post for the week. The next new blog post will be available on Tuesday, April 14. We want to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a Happy Easter! We hope that you are able to enjoy a fun chocolate filled weekend!

Please note you will be receiving an email from your responsibility teacher today with information about google meets and your child's email account and password. Please read the email carefully and sign up using the sign up genius link for an opportunity for your child to meet up with a few other students and your child's responsibility teacher on google meets next week.

We realize this may not work for all families, so please email us and let us know possible times that might work for you if the times provided on the sign up genius don't. We will try our best to work things out in order for the children to connect with us.

Thank you!

Literacy
Materials - Inquiry journal (the big white journal), pencil, crayons, markers

Please listen to the story "Easter Eggs Everywhere". Easter is 3 days away. In your inquiry journal, please draw a large Easter Egg (oval shape). Remember to fill the page with your egg. Inside the egg, please use zig zag lines, horizontal lines, vertical lines, polka dots, X's, etc. to make a pattern on your egg. Please use lots of bight colours to colour your egg. Please practice writing the words "Happy Easter" to go with your creation.

Listen to: Easter Eggs Everywhere!

Math
Materials - Paper, pencil, dice

In Kindergarten the expectation is identifying the numbers 1 to 10. For the following activity, you can go as high as your child is comfortable with. Many of the students already know their numbers to 10,  so challenge your child and make the game board go to 20 or 30.

Video explaining : Life Size Board

Life Size Game Board Activity
* Please note that this activity may take a couple days to create and is optional.
Have your child write out the number from 1-30 on paper (paper plate, scraps of paper, recycled materials, etc). Once the numbers are written out, set up the numbers in order. Create any design for your game board. Use a dice or make your own out of a square dice. Place the numbers down in order from 1-30. Each player will take turns rolling the dice and moving that many spaces. The person that gets to 30 first is the winner.
Once you have played a few times. Try starting at 30 and going backwards to one!

* If you would prefer not to make a life size game board, you can always just write out the numbers on a big piece of paper, make a number line or use a deck of cards. You can play this game using a dice and counters. There are many options, choose the one that works for you!!

Challenge of the Day:
Make a funny face with loose parts in your house. Loose parts include buttons, paper clips, corks, pom poms, pipe cleaners, bottle caps, random things found in your hous. Can you make your whole family?

BONUS ACTIVITIES:
1. There is a math activity posted in our kindergarten windows at the school - if you have a chance to go out for a walk, check it out!

2. Scavenger hunt to try over the weekend 😁 Enjoy and have fun!
