Literacy
Materials: journal, pencil, crayons, pencil crayons, computer or tablet (optional)
This week we are going to read 3 different "Fox and Squirrel" stories. These stories are written by Canadian author, Ruth Ohi.
Please check out her website if you like this week: Ruth Ohi website
Please listen to the story Fox and Squirrel here: Fox and Squirrel
After listening to the story, pick one person in your house. In your journal, write the name of the person you chose. Now draw one thing that is the same about you and the person you chose. Next draw one thing that is different about you and the person you chose.
Below are 2 optional how to draw lessons. We use "Art Hub for Kids" at school for guided drawing lessons and the kids love them!
How to draw a Fox: a guided drawing lesson from Art Hub for Kids: How to draw a fox
How to draw a squirrel: a guided drawing lesson from Art Hub for Kids: How to draw a squirrel
Math - Number Stories / Problem Solving
Materials: 10-20 counters (ie. crayons, buttons, paper clips, pieces of lego, etc)
1. Listen to the number story here:
A Visit to the Farm
2. As you re-read the story out-loud (with no video), have your child put down one counter for each object mentioned in the story.
Problem #1:
Mrs.Watterson and her family went to visit a farm.
They saw a cow.
They saw a chicken.
They saw a sheep.
They saw a horse.
They saw a pig.
And they saw a goat.
How many animals did her family see?
Problem #2:
The farmer also has a puppy. How many animals are there now?
3. Count the number of counters to correctly answer the question at the end of the story.
4. Extension: How many legs would there be in total? (*this is optional)
Challenge of the Day: Plastic Container Art
Materials: plastic storage containers, lids, tupperware, etc.
Please be creative as you try to create art out of everyday materials. Today's challenge involves making "art" from all of those plastic containers you have in your kitchen cupboards! Have fun 😊
