Tuesday April 28

New for the week of April 27 - we will be offering a "storytime" with the teachers. The Google Meet code to join a storytime with one of the teachers is storytimePlease note that there is no sign up genius for this, just join in whenever you can at the times listed below.

Storytimes are as follows:

Tuesday, April 28 2:00pm with Mrs. Watterson
Wednesday, April 29 10:00am with Mrs. Mask
Thursday, April 30 2:00pm with Mrs. Mask

If you plan to attend the storytime Google Meet, we ask that you please turn your microphone OFF as soon as you join the meet. We expect that there will be many Kindergarten friends who want to join and it can become very loud and distracting with so many friends all in the same Meet. Teachers will open the Google Meet 5 minutes prior to the story starting.

Morning Message - view here:
April 28 morning message

Literacy: When you dream of Spring what does it look like?
Materials: computer/tablet, big white journal, colors (pencil crayons, markers, crayons, etc)

Please listen to the story: When Will It Be Spring?

After listening to the story please find the next page in your big white journal.  Draw pictures to show what it looks like when you dream of Spring.  Close your eyes and get a picture in your mind of Spring.  Draw what you see in your dream.  Think about the little bear Alfie from the story, what did Spring look like in his dream?

Poem of the Week - Practice it as much as you can for the rest of the week and then have an adult record it when you're ready to recite it. Hint - copy the words "wake up" and then draw the pictures of objects they mention in the poem (ie. flowers, weeds, frogs, seeds, etc.). Looking at pictures is a great strategy for beginning readers!

Math - Make your own subitizing cards
Materials - paper cut into squares, something to make dots with (bingo dabbers, stickers, markers, etc..)
Task:
Make cards with 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 dots (you can make cards with up to 10 dots). You can draw the dots, make them with finger prints or use bingo dabbers. After your cards dry, you can play different games.

1) Take turns with the partner showing each other one card for about 5 seconds and telling how many dots you see. Check by counting.
2) Take 2 cards and count the number of dots on both cards.
3) Put numbers in order.

Challenge: Recreate some of the items from your drawing in the literacy activity (when you dream of Spring what does it look like?) using loose parts.

Materials - You will need to be creative with what you have at or around your house.  Remember loose parts can be found outside and make some of the best objects to tell stories with.  Loose part creations work the best when you can find a solid colored background to display your creation on.

Please take a look at the photos below for some inspiration if you need it. Have Fun! Be Creative!
