Materials: Journal, pencil
Listen to : Over and Under the Pond
Choose something that lives over or under the pond. You can follow along with the guided drawings below or you can draw or find your own. After you finish drawing, write a sentence about it. Does it live over or under the pond? Tell me something you learned about it from the story.
Moose
Beaver
Turtle
Frog
Raccoon
Extension: Can you find an interesting fact about the animal you chose? Check out Epic books or National Geographic Kids to see if you can learn something new about it!
Math Problem Solving
Materials - blue math journal, pencil, pencil crayons, pictures below
Question #1 - Use picture below from the story
There are 5 cattails on the left page and 5 cattails on the right page. How many cattails are there all together? Draw your answer with pictures and numbers. If you can, try to count up from the number 5 instead of starting back at 1.
Look at both pages. How many turtles are there? How many ducks are there? How many turtles and ducks are there in total?
*Extension: Look at the right page only - if there is one turtle on the log and 4 ducks in the water, how many legs are there in total?
Challenge: How much weight can your tin foil boat hold? Count up the number of objects that your boat holds until it sinks. Can you guess how many it will take? Why did it sink or float better with certain objects? Experiment with as many different objects as you can to compare.
Materials - tin foil boat, container or large bowl of water, small items to test (coins, buttons, crayons, lego pieces, shopkins, nuts & bolts)
Hopefully you remembered to keep the boat you made yesterday!
